Technology Activities:

Thank you for visiting our elementary technology page. Here are some activities to do at home for the next 3 weeks. NOTE: students have technology one day a week for 50 minutes.  If you want to incorporate technology more than once a week, keyboading-typing would be a really good way to increase your child's fluency and accuracy. There are a multitude of typing games on the internet and I have provided some below.

Another great website is brainpopjr for Kindergarten-3rd graders. They are currently offering free access during school closures.

Brainpop for 4th & 5th grade students.

Both websites cover all subject areas in a creative and kid friendly way.

----------------------------------------

All students are working on increasing their fluency and accuracy in keyboarding and this can be done for about 10-15 minutes each day. Here are some websites that are fun and educational.

Grades Kindergarten-2nd are learning how to type letters, words, and sentences. Your child can practice in abcya.com in Keyboard Zoo 2. Another great website bbctyping.com is more advanced. This website focuses more on the homerow and keeping your hands in the correct postion.

Grades 3rd-5th have their own personal typing club accounts. Typing Club. They can practice typing for 10-15 minutes each day. The students understand where to place their hands on the home row as they increase their WPM (Words Per Minute) The students are also expected to keep their accuracy rate above 95%. They are encouraged to go back and redo the lesson if they did not reach the goal. The students username is their first name and the first 3 letters of there last name. An example is mary.smi for Mary Smith. Their password is four digits that they already know. If they forgot, you can email me. Another great site is Typing Test. Have your child do 5 tests each day. Each test is for one minute.

Every chid has their own personal coding accounts in code.org. The students are organized in courses by teacher and grade level. Once the course is completed the students can earn a certificate of completion that you can print from home. If a students needs more help, have them click on the light bulb. They can click on the speaker if they have trouble reading the directions. If they are still struggling with a puzzle, they can take a break and go to the next puzzle and come back to that one later. There are other activities they can do in code other than their course. Have your child click on the create button and explore some new innovative ways to use code.

Once your child enters the code website. They will need to enter their teacher code to get into their accounts. You can contact me for teacher code for your child. Your child will enter their code into the box on the right side of the screen. Please do not enter anything in the middle of the screen. Next, your child will need to enter their password. For grades K-3, once your child gets in they will click on their name and then their picture password to sign in. For 4th and 5th grade students, they have two passwords with a space. If anyone forgets, that is okay just email me.
